The Canadian government has announced an expansion of its international air transport relations with Australia, included in which are unlimited cargo flights between the two nations.
The agreement also includes access to any point in the other country’s territory and will enhance operation capability for each country’s airlines.
The agreement was reached at the recent International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation Event held in Kuala Lumpur.

Canadian Minister for Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Mary Ng says the agreement will improve economic outcomes for both nations.
“The expanded Canada-Australia Air Transport Agreement is great news for passengers, businesses and industries in both Canada and Australia,” Ng says.
“Along with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and my upcoming Team Canada Trade Mission to Australia next year, social and economic opportunities for travellers will grow.
“Thanks to our work and this agreement, Canadian and Australian markets will prosper.”
The ICAO Air Services Negotiation event was hosted from October 21-25, 2024, and provided delegates from around the world to conduct bilateral, regional and plurilateral air services negotiations and consultations.
Canadian Minister for Transport Anita Anand says the agreement will strengthen international supply chains between the countries.
“We are pleased to enhance our strong relationship with Australia, one of our most important markets,” Anand says.
“This expanded air transport agreement will improve connectivity for passengers, deepen our cultural and commercial ties, and strengthen our supply chains.
“This is great news for travellers and businesses in both our countries.”
Along with the unlimited number of direct cargo flights between Australia and Canada as part of the agreement, there will also be an unlimited number of direct passenger flights.
