Australia Post to unveil four new regional SA parcel processing sites

As online shopping volume continues to grow in South Australia, the national carrier is building new facilities to manage a parcel boom

National carrier Australia Post has announced a boost to its regional South Australian delivery network, investing in four new facilities in Murray Bridge, Kadina, Port Pirie and Tanunda.

Following its $500 million parcel super hub reveal last year, Australia Post is introducing the purpose-built sites to increase parcel capacity and improve delivery speed in some of the state’s fastest-growing regional centres.

With data showing online shopping in the state has risen 4.9 per cent year-on-year, including a nine per cent jump during the November to December peak period, each new Australia Post site is expected to handle between 2,000 to 3,700 parcels per day.

As part of Australia Post’s commitment to emissions reduction, all sites will be fitted with rooftop solar to maximise local energy generation and support EV chargers for our electric vehicles.

Australia Post executive general manager network operations Shane Plant says the investment demonstrates Australia Post’s long-term commitment to supporting regional communities and their growing needs.

“With 80 per cent of South Australian households now shopping online, parcel volumes in regional areas continue to grow. These modern facilities are built to handle that growth, setting us up to support our customers into the future,” he says.

“We’ve focused on designing sites that improve safety, increase capacity and streamline transport flow, creating more efficient workplaces for our teams so they can get on the road safely and deliver for our customers now and into the future.”

Construction is already underway on the sites, with the 1,143sqm Murray Bridge site set to open in June, Kadina and Port Pirie both in July and Tanunda in August.

This investment in regional South Australia is part of a broader commitment to strengthening services across the state, with the announcement of Australia Post’s biggest investment ever with a $500 million Parcel Super Hub to open in Adelaide in 2028.
