Australia Post has new dimension weigh scanning (DWS) equipment and will change parcel costs
July 16, 2013
Australia Post has been installing dimension weigh scanning (DWS) equipment, and will phase in new parcel charges.
The equipment is intended to allow Australia Post to accurately charge customers based on the actual weight and dimensions of parcels lodged.
Australia Post will capture detailed parcel information from the DWS machinery, but last week assured customers there would be no immediate change to Australia Post’s charging.
An Australia Post statement says the organisation will instead work with customers to understand the impact DWS will have on businesses.
Australia Post will then phase in charges.
Once DWS charging commences, eParcel customers will be invoiced for domestic parcel deliveries based on:
- The parcel information declared in a manifest and provided at the time of lodgement into the Australia Post network
- The dead weight or cubic dimension weight of each parcel lodged with Australia Post, as measured via the new DWS
- The volume discount stated in parcel contracts with Australia Post.
When there is a difference between parcel information declared in a manifest and parcel information derived from measuring the cubic and dead weight of each parcel via the DWS equipment, the invoice will be generated based on the DWS measurements.
The Australia Post statement says changes will not affect the processing of parcels.
