Australia bears fruits of successful FedEx experiment

Australia was the first non-US market to use FedEx’s new DTP system. Now, a global rollout is expected following initial success

FedEx has announced the introduction of its dynamic drive-through pallet (DTP) dimensioning system in its Australia’s operations as it looks to streamline the efficiency, accuracy and operational advancements in its regional operations.

This is the first time the DTP system has been implemented in FedEx’s operations outside the United States, with the newly constructed Adelaide facility acting as the first gateway in the country to implement in the midst of South Australia’s growing demand for ecommerce.

The DTP system can double the handling speed of traditional devices from 150-200 bulk shipments per hour per device to 400 bulk shipments per hour per device.

Vice President of FedEx Australasia Peter Langley says innovations like DTP enable FedEx to continue to service its customers to the best of its ability.

“At FedEx we are dedicated to embracing innovations that elevate our operational capabilities and service offerings,” Langley says.

“The introduction of DTP in our Australian operations drives greater efficiency and enhances the customer experience.

“We will continue innovating to further optimise our processes, creating greater value for our businesses and customers.”

The DTP system has successfully been installed and has been operational at 10 major FedEx stations across Australia.

Following the successful implementation in Australia FedEx aims to roll out this technology across other key global markets.

Key advantages of the Drive-through Systems:

  • Enhanced Accuracy and Safety: The Dynamic algorithms ensure highly accurate measurements, minimising discrepancies and reducing the need for manual handling, thereby lowering the risk of workplace injuries.
  • Increased Speed: Automated dimensioning reduces processing time, enabling faster transit and delivery times.
  • Cost Efficiency: Precise measurement optimises space and load planning, resulting in enhanced resource utilisation.
