Aussie manufacturer H2X makes major Nordic play

Australian hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle manufacturer H2X has announced a new partnership that will help it introduce hydrogen into the Nordic area later this year

Australian hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle manufacturer H2X Global Limited has partnered with Norwegian Hydrogen AS to introduce hydrogen infrastructure and vehicles to the Nordic region in 2023.

In a positive step towards the decarbonisation of the region’s commercial transport fleets the two companies have released plans to collaborate on the supply of hydrogen and a range of Hydrogen Fuel Cell commercial vehicles.

The strategy is to build out fleets of hydrogen vehicles around hydrogen refuelling sites to begin the transition to a lower emissions future.

The aim of the partnership is to bring together all of the components of climate-friendly commercial transport into a single channel – including the production and purchase of green hydrogen, distribution, and hydrogen refuelling stations, as well as the supply and aftersales support of hydrogen vehicles.

Norwegian Hydrogen’s managing director for refuelling Per Oyvind Voie says the partnership makes sense.

“Trucks need refuelling stations – and refuelling stations need trucks. This makes the partnership between our two companies a perfect match,” he says.

H2X Global’s head of sales and marketing Bill Moss says the move to hydrogen and alternative fuels cannot come fast enough.

“The transition to net-zero carbon transport through hydrogen is vital to help eliminate the growing emissions from the transport sector,” Moss says.

“This sector accounts for 23 per cent of global energy-related C02 emissions and is the fastest-growing contributor to climate change.

“Collaboration between hydrogen producers like Norwegian Hydrogen and a commercial vehicle manufacturer like H@X is crucial in the reduction of zero emissions, and offering fleet owners a good alternative.”

The memorandum of understanding announcement followed soon after H2X Global’s subsidiary H2X Gothenburg AB won a public tender for the supply of hydrogen vehicles in the 3.5t, 5t and 18t categories.

The first of those vehicles are expected to be in operation by the end of this year, with the full fleet to be active by the end of 2025.

H2X Global has operations in Australia, Malaysia, India and Europe.
