Aurizon signs Syntech coal haulage deal

The agreement includes hauling 1.7 million tonnes of coal per annum from the Cameby Downs mine

Rail freight operator Aurizon has signed a new two-year agreement with Syntech Resources for the haulage of coal from the Cameby Downs mine in southeast Queensland to the Port of Brisbane.

The new performance-based agreement will see Aurizon haul up to 1.7 million tonnes of coal per annum.

The contract comes in effect February 1 and there is a possibility for it to be extended for an additional two years.

The new contract will replace the existing (1.4 million tonnes per annum) contract that is due to expire at the end of January.

Aurizon executive Neves said the agreement demonstrated the company’s commitment to working with customers to contribute to the competitiveness of their operations in the current challenging environment.

“We have worked closely with Syntech Resources to deliver an agreement that provides operational flexibility and the opportunity to share in productivity enhancements and improvements in market conditions,” Neves said.

The Cameby Downs coal mine is located roughly 360km northwest of Brisbane and is connected to the Port of Brisbane by the South-West rail corridor.
