ATA issues AdBlue supply update

A leading urea supplier says there’s no immediate cause for AdBlue concern

The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has provided an update on the current AdBlue supplies in its weekly newsletter.

According to the ATA, AdBlue supplier DGL AUSblue briefed ATA councillors last week about the outlook for Australia’s AdBlue supplies.

DGL AUSblue supplies around 30 per cent of Australia’s AdBlue, with general manager Matthew Berry telling councillors that in his view there’s no reason to fear an AdBlue shortage leading up to Christmas.

“He said there is an oversupply of AdBlue leading into December because AUSblue has been importing significant volumes and Incitec Pivot is producing millions of litres a week,” the ATA says.

“Councillors discussed the closure of Incitec Pivot’s Brisbane plant later this year and the continued work of the Department of Industry.”

The ATA says it will continue separately engaging with the federal government on the future of domestic urea manufacturing.

In recent updates, the federal government has put out a request for information (RFI) on options to strengthen the domestic supply of refined technical grade urea, which is the main component of AdBlue.

The government says the responses to the RFI will help them make decisions on how to build the resilience of the AdBlue supply.

The RFI was opened on July 4 and will close at midday on Friday July 22, with submissions welcomed from existing and potential new market participants.

The RFI aims to gather details on stocks, storage, supply chains and market function, as well as enhancing market transparency and the domestic capability opportunities for manufacturing/ production and storage.
