ASA rebrands as Maritime Industry Australia Limited

Changing Australian Shipowners Association name and structure driven by developments at representative body

The Australian Shipowners Association (ASA) has revamped to reflect its changing identity and services, the industry association says.

It is now Maritime Industry Australia Limited (MIAL) following an extraordinary general meeting held in Perth.

“The new name represents the diverse base of the membership of the association and more accurately represents our role in the broader maritime industry in Australia,” MIAL chairman Noel Hart says.

“Our organisation has existed in various forms since 1899, when the Australasian Steamship Owners Federation was created.

“Our new identity demonstrates inclusiveness and openness which is reflective of the character of our association.”

Along with announcing its new face, MIAL has restructured its service delivery model for members.

“Members of the association are highly complementary of the service they receive and the benefits that membership provides,” Hart says.

“Our new structure allows even greater customisation of service and dedicated information for specific sectors of the industry.”
