ARTC appoints acting board chair for three months

An Inland Rail expert will take over as chair of the ARTC for three months to help accelerate the project

The Australian Rail Track Corporation, combined with the federal government, has announced the appointment of Dr Kerry Schott as the new ARTC acting chair for three months.

Schott will take over the ARTC for the period following her involvement in the Inland Rail review.

Schott will replace Peter Duncan, who told the ARTC last week he would be taking a three month leave of absence to serve as acting secretary of the department of the Premier and Cabinet in NSW.

The federal government says it is a sign of how much Duncan’s expertise is valued that he has been asked to take on this role, with the ARTC sure his advice will be appreciated by Premier Minns.

Schott recently concluded a significant review of Inland Rail and is perfectly placed to oversee the initial implementation of the recommendations she made and the government accepted.

During her three-month tenure, Schott will focus on recruiting a permanent CEO of Inland Rail and addressing the governance and board capability shortcomings her report outlined.

“We are grateful to Dr Schott for agreeing to undertake this important task and we look forward to welcoming Mr Duncan back to the role later in the year,” the federal government says.
