Police in Victoria are still investigating a truck rollover on the Princes Highway last week that killed most of the sheep onboard.

A police spokeswoman says “around 600 of the 750 sheep were killed” when the driver of the B-double lost control in Stoneyford near Colac last Friday.

Police originally said 500 were killed in the incident, which forced the closure of one lane of the highway between Hawkes Nest Road and the Pirron Yallock Hotel.

“Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the rollover,” the spokeswoman says.

The 29-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while a crane was brought in to remove the truck.
