Australian shipping company ANL Container Lines has confirmed it will be looking at starting up a new coastal shipping service, but has declined to say what it will carry or which ports it will service.
Speaking to SupplyChain Review, the company’s General Manager of Business Development, Chris Schultz, says the former government-owned vessel operator would wait on the outcome from the Shipping Council Advisory Group (SCAG) before making a decision.
The SCAG is currently discussing initiatives which would assist in rebuilding the coastal shipping industry in Australia.
“Our MD [managing director] has announced that we are keen to look at a new coastal service. This, however, would be dependent on the outcome of the Shipping Council Advisory Group’s announcement later this year,” Schultz says.
“The service would consist of a range of goods and would be run from our Melbourne head office, but I can’t say any more at this point.”
