Allied Express develops three touch automated freight system

Heavy freight transportation is entering the age of automation with a new logistics solution unveiled this week

Logistics provider Allied Express claims it is changing the transport industry with its new automated freight sortation system.

With goals to reduce the amount of handling freight needs to go through on its journey from dispatch to destination, the company says it will revolutionise logistics.

Allied Express was inspired by technology used in places like airports, looking to instead use the foundation of those systems for large freight.

It says that it will be able to sort oversized freight automatically, increasing the accuracy and traceability of freight, while also improving staff safety as the need to handle oversized items drops greatly.

Allied Express managing director Michelle McDowell speaks proudly of the system’s capabilities.

“This system is a game changer for the industry,” she says.

“It will revolutionise the way we do business and make our operations more efficient and cost effective.

“Now more than ever, Allied Express is setting the standard for efficient freight sorting solutions. We’re proud to be leading the way and providing customers with access to next-level logistics technology.

Allied Express unveils its new system.

The sortation system has a maximum sortable dimension of 1.9m long by 900mm wide, and can handle a maximum dead weight of 50kg, which is approximately the dimensions of a single door fridge freezer.

The powered roller section of the system slows the speed of items sliding down, taking away the danger of damage to both the freight and workers due to the weight.

It has two infeed lines and 85 chutes, including a reject chute close to the induction point so mislabelled items can be dealt with, and Allied says it can run for more than 10 hours per day.

There is one chute per driver, taking away the need for manual sorting for the route. The chute bed is 2×2.4m.

“Our commitment to innovation means we’ll never stop pushing for better solutions,” McDowell says.

We know what matters most to our customers and we’ll continue to invest in tools that ensure their freight is delivered on time and in great condition.
