AITA to address forklift safety at conference

Safety issues under a new standard for the forklift industry will be examined during this year’s National Forklift Safety Week

March 12, 2013

Safety issues under a new standard for the forklift industry will be examined during this year’s National Forklift Safety Week, the Australian Industrial Truck Association (AITA) has announced.

AITA President Steve Stewart says the forklift safety week, which runs from June 3 to 7, will focus on changed requirements for the operation of forklift trucks.

“The AITA is particularly pleased to be conducting the 2013 National Forklift Safety Week in light of the changes in the recently released new standard which will have a significant impact on the safety of all employees working with, or around, lift trucks every day,” Stewart says in a statement.

The safety week will feature a seminar covering training implications, traffic management, safety responsibility, workplace health and safety harmonisation, and other legal issues.

The AITA says the new safety standard will change requirements and guidance for site traffic management plans and give more definitive requirements and guidance for qualifications, training, and authorisation of operators.

The seminar will be held June 4 in Sydney.
