Additional lanes open on Pacific Motorway

Capacity increased on section of Queensland's Pacific Motorway with removal of transit lanes

July 2, 2013

The capacity on a section of Queensland’s Pacific Motorway has been increased with the removal of transit lanes.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson says the T2 lanes between Klumpp Road and the Gateway Motorway merge are now gone, opening up the section to eight lanes.

Emerson says the lane removal works came under budget, meaning leftover money can be funnelled into bridge protection works on the section of the motorway.

“We have worked hard to deliver this project as quickly as possible with the T2 signage removed and transit lane restrictions lifted before commuters returned to work after the Easter break in April,” he says.

“From April we got on with the task of re-line marking the road to add two lanes in each direction and safety barriers were also installed.”

State MP for Sunnybank Mark Stewart says the decision to remove the transit lanes made better use of the road space.

“It made much more sense to use existing infrastructure instead of building something from scratch,” he says.
