Mercedes-Benz Actros heavy truck judged European Truck of the decade

The Mercedes-Benz Actros heavy truck scored another major victory recently, when it was judged the European Truck of the decade.
Now in its third generation, the Actros also holds the distinction of being judged Truck of the Year every time a new generation was released.
With the Mercedes PowerShift 2 automated transmissions installed as standard in the road vehicles, the third-generation on-highway version of the Actros has been available since March 2008, with the Australian launch held in 2009.
Since its 1996 release, more than 650,000 Actros variants have been sold world-wide, and it remains the only truck available with Active Brake Assist, based on the Telligent proximity control which independently triggers emergency braking in the event of acute danger of a rear-end collision with a vehicle ahead.
Power comes from the OM 501 LA and OM 502 LA engines in Euro 4/5, the range covering four 11.9-litre V6 engines from 265 kW (360 hp) to 350 kW (476 hp) and three 15.9-litre V8 engines from 375 kW (510 hp) to 440 kW (598 hp).
