More than $200,000 will be allocated to road safety initiatives across the ACT, with the 2025 Road Safety Fund Grants targeting projects that enhance safety for all road users, including freight and logistics operators who rely on the network daily.
Eight projects have secured funding this year, ranging from education programs for young drivers and motorcyclists to training for road engineers and contractors to make roads more truck- and motorcycle-friendly.
Minister for Government and City Services Tara Cheyne says the investment reflects the government’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminating deaths and serious injuries.
“Every life lost or serious injury on our roads is one too many. These grants are about investing in practical, community-driven solutions that improve safety for drivers and vulnerable road users,” Tara Cheyne says.
Among the funded initiatives is Making Roads Motorcycle Friendly, a training program designed for engineers, managers, contractors and field staff involved in road construction and maintenance.
Another project, Cyclabilities: On the Move, delivers a trauma-informed road safety program for children with disabilities and neurodivergence, while Safe-Nav workshops aim to reach culturally and linguistically diverse road users.
Other projects include school-based driver education and a Motorcycle Road Safety Forum, which focuses on the importance of protective clothing.
Cheyne says community partnerships are key to creating lasting improvements.
“By working with community groups, schools and local organisations, we can deliver projects that have a real impact on people’s lives. These initiatives are designed to help change behaviours and promote safer roads for everyone,” Cheyne says.
