Asian Bulk Logistics (ABL) has completed the acquisition of SCF Containers, marking a significant expansion of its Australian logistics platform and deepening its exposure to intermodal and containerised freight markets.
The acquisition sees ABL take full ownership of SCF Containers from global asset manager ICG, following the completion of all conditions precedent. SCF is widely recognised as Australia’s leading provider of tailored container solutions, with operations across Australia and New Zealand.
ABL’s move builds on its recent Australian acquisitions, including One Rail Australia in 2023 and Transshipment Service Australia earlier this year. Together, the assets position ABL as a fully integrated logistics provider spanning rail haulage, transhipment, maritime services and container solutions.
SCF Containers operates one of the most extensive container fleets in the region, supplying intermodal, tank, refrigerated and on-site storage containers. Its national depot network covers all major capital cities and key regional locations, supporting customers across transport, logistics, resources, construction, retail, defence and government.
President Director of ABL, Ika Heru Beth Ari, said the acquisition aligned with the group’s long-term diversification strategy.
“Acquisitions enable accelerated growth by providing immediate access to new assets, customers and capabilities,” Beth Ari said. “Integrating SCF into the ABL Group presents significant opportunities to widen our customer base, enhance our solution suite and reinforce our position as a world-class logistics leader.”
ICG Managing Director James Giannas said SCF had delivered strong operational performance under ICG’s ownership and was well placed for its next growth phase.
“SCF has been a highly valued business within our portfolio,” Giannas said. “The company has expanded its capabilities, strengthened its customer base and secured transformational opportunities such as the Aurizon agreement. We believe ABL Group is the ideal partner for the next chapter.”
SCF Chief Executive Officer Justin Speedy said the transaction provided continuity for customers while unlocking new growth opportunities.
“We are delighted to be joining the ABL group,” Speedy said. “ICG’s support has allowed us to strengthen our operations and expand our fleet. ABL brings deep industrial expertise and a long-term mindset, and it is business as usual for our customers as we move into an exciting new chapter.”
ABL said the acquisition supports its broader strategy to expand beyond energy commodities into diversified freight sectors, including consumer goods, construction and chemicals.
With SCF’s container capability now added to its rail and transhipment assets, ABL is positioning itself as an end-to-end logistics provider able to support complex supply chain requirements across Australia and the region.
