With 10 Hino 716 Hybrids already in service, express freight specialist TNT is upping the ante in the green stakes by ordering an additional 10 of the trucks.
TNT regional director Rod Barnes says hybrid trucks have reduced the company's carbon footprint, but had injected a sense of pride into its workforce.
"Adopting hybrids is a very important factor in TNT achieving its green KPIs," Barnes says.
"We are a transport company so we are very conscious of the footprint we create when we deliver freight. These 10 new hybrids are a very visible example of our environmental policies, but it goes beyond that.”
Barnes says TNT has noted a drop in exhaust emissions with the hybrid fleet and a reduction in fuel consumption.
The new hybrids will be spread among fleets across Australia, including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
