One of Australia’s leading container transport companies has turned to stringent low-emission vehicles to meet customer demands for greener operations.

The Queensland-based Container Swinglift Services is the first operator in the state to run the new Euro 5 engine from vehicle manufacturer PACCAR, and CEO Carl Marchese says it is a win-win situation.

“We want to be proactive and if there’s an opportunity for us to do the right thing by the environment, we will,” Marchese says.

“Additionally, we have a number of significant, blue chip global clients who look very favourably on providers who are genuinely committed to a programme that will reduce emissions.”

Managing Director Maria Tapper says clients are demanding better equipment standards, with Marchese saying the company typically runs a vehicle for five years or a maximum 500,000kms.

Container Swing Lift Services runs different combinations such as B-doubles and single loaders, with many of the vehicles operating around the clock on two shifts a day.

Most of the fleet is dedicated to delivering and collecting containers in the Brisbane metro region, but the company says it also runs daily shifts to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

“The B-Doubles running in and out of the Port [of Brisbane] have lower kilometres. Basically it’s the side-loaders who are doing most of the deliveries, so they’re the trucks running up the kilometres,” Marchese says.

The operator was established in 1985 by Roger and Maria Tapper and has now grown to boast transport, warehouse and logistics services.
