Mercedes-Benz to unveil eActros truck

The popular manufacturer has released prototype sketches of the new electric model

Mercedes-Benz Trucks says it will unveil the new eActros LongHaul electric truck designed for long-distance transport in September this year at the IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover.

The battery-electric long-distance truck model will be Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ trade show highlight at this year’s IAA Transportation, as the manufacturer originally announced the 40-tonne truck in 2020.

Now it has presented the concept prototype of the model exactly two years after the release.

The tractor unit featured is also part of the eActros LongHaul test fleet, with the first prototypes already undergoing intensive testing before being put on public roads this year.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks says readiness for the series is planned for 2024, as the new model will have a range of around 500 kilometres while enabling high-performance charging.

The group will also present further new battery-electric trucks at IAA this year, with the eEconic set to follow the eActros heavy-duty truck model, all part of Mercedes-Benz’s pursuit of increasing locally made emissions free vehicles to more than 50 per cent in Europe by 2030.

Mercedes-Benz says its battery-electric drives have the highest efficiency among alternative drives, meaning there could be significant economic advantages in the eActros LongHaul’s intended use scenarios.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks CEO Karin Rådström says: “The electrification of heavy long-distance transport is the next milestone on our road to carbon dioxide-neutrality.”

“The eActros LongHaul is a battery-electric vehicle which is planned to be economically feasible for our customers.

“My team and I look forward to presenting this innovative truck to our customers and the public in September.”
