LSM Technologies protecting assets with Turners Engineering

The technology company is protecting the engineering business’ fleet

Vehicle technology company Life Saving Mitigation (LSM) Technology is forging a partnership with Turner’s Engineering to protect the company’s vehicle assets.

Turner’s Engineering works from the Gold Coast, having been established in 1954 and grown into a diversified engineering company servicing the construction, mining and transport industries.

The company’s services include plant hire, equipment sales, custom manufacturing of buckets and attachments, conversion and fuel refurbishment, service and water trucks and heavy haulage.

Its trucks tow floats that include a prime mover, with up to 90 tyres used in a single combination that require checking and maintaining.

Started by current managing director Mick Turner, wo for 20 years has had his son Luke by his side, the company consists of 200 pieces of equipment including four road trucks.

Turner’s Engineering chose to install the LSM Tyreguard MTR360 multi-combination tyre monitoring system to its first truck/ trailer/ dolly combination about four months ago.

Turner’s says it has resulted in huge safety and efficiency gains, with the system also monitoring the pressure and temperature of wheels and tyres.

“Looking ahead, all of our road going equipment is going to have that LSM TMSystem fitted,” Luke Turner says.

“We chose the system because it helps reduce the cost per kilometre of our tyres while offering peace of mind and reducing fire risks.

“With LSM Technologies FSM Fleet Safety (+Tracking) Manager, a live online data portal means we can see information about every single tyre at any given time, all from the one remote location.”

Turner says the productivity gains come from the operators not having to check every single tyre for pressure, which can save just under five hours per vehicle depending on the combination and its tyres.

The engineering company says that using the FSM Fleet Safety (+Tracking) Manager telematics or checking the LSM TyreGuard in-cabin monitor has saved plenty of time, allowing the operator to only address the tyres requiring attention.

“It also picks up the ambient temperatures of each wheel, so it can tell you if you have a brake fire that’s about to start – rather than drivers having to rely on others to tell them there’s smoke blowing out the back,” Turner says.

LSM says its TyreGuard TMSystem has been purpose built to survive and function efficiently in extreme conditions, meaning it can offer the highest levels of accuracy, durability, reliability and protection for customers’ tyres, vehicles and occupants.

The LSM TyreGuard TMSystems can be used on any vehicle or machine that has a pneumatic tyre, ranging from heavy industrial equipment to domestic vehicles.

LSM’s technology can ensure tyres are inflated properly to ensure peak performance and handling, as tyre pressures are being constantly monitored by the technology when the vehicle is both moving or parked.

The systems can also provide alerts about dangerous low-pressure and high temperature situations, with both a visual and an audible alert available.

When tyres are properly inflated, they can last longer due to less tread wear, which extends the life of tyre treads by up to 35 per cent.

This also leads to saving on fuel and ensuring the tyre casing is protected, reducing blowouts and side wall rips.

For Luke Turner and the engineering company, this protection puts them at ease.

“I think we’ll start to see this sort of tyre monitoring system becoming standard on heavy haulage floats across the industry in the future,” Turner says.

“The peace of mind we get from this system is just fantastic.”
