Mental health has been at the fore of the transport industry recently as the issue becomes more prominent, and openly spoken about, with the Drake Group revealing its initiative with non-profit Beyond Blue to further increase awareness.

The trailer company delivered a 10×8 steerable low loader trailer painted in Beyond Blue colours to Rio Tinto, “showing our support and raising awareness of depression”.

Drake Group sales manager Sam Drake tells ATN the unit will carry heavy earthmoving equipment both on highway and on mine site in Weipa, far north Queensland for the mining corporation.

“Both Rio and Drake have existing relationships with Beyond Blue,” he says.

“The Drake Group has integrated a Beyond Blue mental health training program into its workplace.

“The program trains staff and managers on how to recognise, deal and talk about mental health and provide easy access for help.

“We are always looking for opportunities to promote such a worthy cause, raising awareness for something that affects almost everyone.”

In a social media post, the company adds: “Did you know that one in five truck drivers have experienced mental health issues and have a 7% higher chance of developing depression?

“It’s said that 45% of people in Australia will have a period of their life affected by mental health conditions.

“This trailer is a show stopper any day of the week, but with a bit of luck when it’s seen travelling to Weipa in far North Queensland, and out on the roads, it will inspire people to start conversations which are sometimes hard to raise.”

“The Beyond Blue website offers a wide range of tools and guidance for those suffering from a mental health condition or those who around them who want to offer their support.”
