Hino to launch new hybrid power cooling system

Profia COOL Hybrid aimed at large electric refrigeration vehicles

 

Hino’s assault on the alternative-propulsion truck challenge rolls on with the announcement of a new hybrid system for heavy refrigerated vehicles.

Hard on the heels of its pledge to have its Profia new generation vehicle out next year comes what it dubs the “Hino Profia COOL Hybrid” with a view to optimising freezing performance and fuel economy.

The truckmaker says it has linked with electric refrigerator manufacturers are Denso and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to realise a the use the electric power of its hybrid system as the power source of the refrigerator.

“This current Hino Profia COOL Hybrid uses electric power regenerated and generated by a hybrid system for small trucks only for driving the electric compressor for refrigerator,” the company says.

“On the other hand, the new Hino Profia COOL Hybrid uses a newly developed hybrid system for heavy-duty trucks, resulting in greater battery capacity and motor output than before, greatly contributing to improving refrigeration performance.

“In addition, about 10 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency is obtained in in-house testing compared with the current model.”

Main function improvements claimed for the system are:

  • two hours of power supply for driving the refrigerator after the engine stops, due to an increase in battery capacity from 1.9 kWh to 11 kWh
  • storage temperature of -18 degrees C at an ambient temperature of +35 degrees C
  • pre-cooling time reduced by about 90 minutes due to improved motor output from 36kW to 90kW.
