International and Hyundai make latest sales marks

Much like the previous month, decade records tumble in rebound

Note: there has been a TIC change to the number of Hyundai light duty trucks sold, to seven from two originally.

Two makes that have returned to sales boards from which they have been missing for some years, Truck Industry Council (TIC) T-Mark figures show.

International scored two units in the heavy-duty segment in the figures for October after being resurrected here earlier in the year.

Hyundai, which has returned after a briefer hiatus, has come on board for T-Mark and recorded seven light-duty units a year after its relaunch.

They were incremental help in an October commercial vehicle total of 3410, the best October since T-Mark figure began in 2008.

This was also the best month for the year so far.

The year-to-date total of 29,704 fell short of 2008’s 30,751, however, to be second on that list.

Isuzu’s 824 total was 22 beneath only that of the bumper, pre-GFC 2008 total for the month and at 7350, 342 behind the earlier year’s year-to-date figure.

The heavy-duty segment is in terrific form with 1191 an October record, though, at 9800, 2008 shaded 2017’s year-to-date performance by 347 units.

Kenworth’s 266 was an October record, up on 2008’s 253, while the smiles will be bright at Volvo, which is pitching towards 200s territory at 187, Mercedes-Benz, pitching to the 100s at 86, and Scania which is snapping at its heels with 82.

MAN is also making its presence felt and it is instructive that the German marque, at 45 heavy-duty units, more than doubled October 2016’s mark of just 19.

On the slope, though, is Freightliner, slipping to 28 from 38 last year.

Medium-duty was not quite as impressive but still strong at 652 for the month and 5901 the year to date.

That was under 2008 quite considerably but the second best in 10 years.

For the first time in a long time, Hino threw out a challenge to Isuzu, at 201 units, only 41 behind the usually rampant market leader.

In the light-duty segment Isuzu would not stand to be headed this October, its 434 a 10-year record, with Fuso and, especially, Hino both up and in their own record territory but still not a threat to the top position.

The 1042 segment total was down 17 0n last year but the year to date of 9477 has never been better.
