Clarke made Navistar chairman

Current chief executive Troy Clarke replaces non-executive chairman James Keyes

President and CEO Troy Clarke was made the new chairman of Navistar International during the company’s annual general meeting last week.

Clarke replaced James Keyes, who served as the company’s non-executive chairman before announcing his retirement last year.

The appointment comes less than six months after the company entered a “strategic alliance” with Volkswagen Trucks & Bus that involved the latter taking up a 16.6 per cent stake in the US truck manufacturer.

“It has been a pleasure to serve on the board for the last four years, and I am honoured to have been elected chairman,” Clarke says.

“This is an exciting time for Navistar, as we pursue our growth strategies highlighted by significant new product launches and our pending strategic alliance with Volkswagen Truck & Bus.

“I look forward to continuing to work with our very dynamic board, which is focused on the future and supportive of management’s efforts to create a great truck company.”

The Illinois-based company recently elected nine incumbent board directors for a one-year term including, Troy Clarke, Jose Alapont, Stephen D’Arcy, Vincent Intrieri, Samuel Merksamer, Mark Rachesky, Michael Sirignano, Dennis Suskind and US army veteran Stanley McChrystal.
