WARTA brings in CTAA for advice and advocacy

State association sees growing landside activity at the Port of Fremantle

The Western Australian Road Transport Association (WARTA) has brought in the Container Transport Alliance Australia (CTAA) to help boost its advocacy and member representation.

WARTA chairman Ray U’Chong says it is a unique agreement that will give the organisation greater influence in the port landside container transport logistics industry in WA.

“Container trade through the Port of Fremantle rose by over 11 per cent last year, and during this coming peak season is likely to trend even higher,” he says.

“As a result, we need to constantly consider landside container logistics efficiencies, productivity and costs. [The CTAA] bring significant transport logistics expertise and skills that will benefit our members and all participants in the landside logistics chain as we tackle these challenges together.”

CTAA director Neil Chambers says the alliance is looking forward to working closely with the industry in WA.

“Improving operational interactions between businesses is fundamental to landside logistics efficiencies, as is the adoption of the right technology interfaces, the optimal use of equipment, and a regulatory regime that supports growth, sustainability and productivity,” he says.

“We see great opportunities for CTAA to closely support WARTA as a strong uniting voice on all of these important issues.

With the extra support now in place, WARTA plans to revitalise its port operations committee, giving the organisation a voice on port-specific forums and working groups such as the WA Port Operations Taskforce.
