$104 million for NSW rail

State budget delivers continued investment in the regional rail network

The Australian Railway Association (ARA) says it is pleased with the level of funding for rail infrastructure in this week’s NSW budget. Its acting CEO Phil Allan notes that ongoing commitments through the Rebuilding NSW fund will mean a much-needed efficiency and productivity boost around the state’s supply chains.

Further, the allocation of $104.8 million for the regional rail network will have a positive impact on the state’s freight businesses.

“The ARA is… pleased to see the NSW government’s continued investment in maintaining and upgrading the regional passenger and freight rail network with $104.8 million allocated this financial year,” he says.

“[This will help to] upgrade regional branch lines and continue developing strong, resilient and efficient rail supply chains for the state’s primary industries, such as agribusiness and mining.”

Funding for the Sydney Metro rail projects ($1 billion in funding allocated), expanding light rail networks ($120 million) and the second harbour rail crossing were also high on the ARA’s list before the budget.
