Patrick to halt in Sydney for automation refit

Patrick’s terminal at Port Botany will shut down for four days from Sunday, as its new automation system is brought online.

The last parts of Patrick’s automation project in Sydney are to be completed next week, with the company shutting down its Port Botany terminal to make way for new equipment.

A spokesman for the company says operations will cease from Sunday March 29, and reopen on Thursday April 2.

“Patrick is currently preparing for cut-over to automation at its Port Botany terminal,” he says.

“The final construction work required will result in some short-term changes to operations.”

Customers have been advised, with most arriving vessels switching to either the DP World or Hutchison terminals at the port.

Landside delays have also been predicted, for both the closure and the Easter holiday period that follows immediately after.

“I would suggest our customers be mindful of the closure and maintain a steady delivery schedule as we approach [it],” Don Hughes, general manager of Australian Container Freight Services in NSW, tells customers.

“I believe this will ensure stock levels at your facilities are kept at the appropriate levels.”

The wharf transport specialist will operate from two terminals over the affected period – adding its Enfield facility to wharf operations temporarily.

Patrick says it is working with all customers and stakeholders to minimise the disruptions faced.

“This is the final stage of a two-year journey that will deliver a terminal with enough capacity to support the needs of our customers well into the future,” the spokesman says.
