A NSW truck driver has lost his licence and been fined almost $3000 after being caught travelling 152km/h on the Hume Highway.

Police caught the driver about 3:50am yesterday at Mittagong and suspended his licence for six months for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. The 27-year-old driver from Richmond was also fined $2828.

He was working for a company at the time, but a spokesman for the NSW Police declined to release the name of both parties.

The driver told officers he sped because he had overslept and was going to be late delivering a load of frozen foods.

The spokesman says there is no evidence from the driver he was pressured by his employer to break the speed limit to deliver freight.

“He hasn’t given us any indication of that,” the spokesman says.

“I don’t think there is a wider investigation by police.”

The driver has the option of challenging the penalty if he chooses to take the matter to court.

yeah im sure we all have sped, but not 152 in a bdouble! how did he think he was going to stop when brakes are pretty useless at 130? it was only luck no one was hurt, definitely no skill involved.

For all of those that have no idea of what it's like to be a truck driver, get over it. People do the same sh** in cars all the time. Well he didn't kill anyone nor injure anyone. He's a great driver, I know him. So get off your high horse and grow up because I bet you've all sped at some stage in your life.

I would rather be like a "Simon mong" than be a danger to other road users as well being a complete embarresment to the industry and your own families as your mate and by the sounds of it some of you "bro". Most of your partners and children would be mortified if they could see how some of you morons who parade as truck drivers carry on, on a all to regular basis. If you can,t handle the national work dairy then get out of the industry, because the industry does not need you...

no there isn't any need to be driving like that by yet car drivers do it everyday but nothing is said about them.. people don't understand the crap bosses put on there drivers and i know for a fact that they put unrealistic goals on their driver and if they dont do it goodbye get out of the truck which is what only just happen to my partner. I'm not trying to make accuses for the guy but come on its either get there or lose your job thats pretty much what alot companies tell the drivers

Well I think you all need to sit back a take a look at yourself. And tell me u have never gone that speed ova the limit before Eva. Not to mention the pressure that is put on the drivers and pay is just not good enough. If any of you a the likes of linfox or lb.'s well you ant truckers u are cowboys waiting to go up. Ok he did wrong by speeding but I know him and he would never intentionally put any life in danger. Take a look at all car accidents and go attack them for there actions. Cause reality you idiots without trucks and drivers like him u wouldn't have anything. Cause without trucks Australia stops

What a moron. The Hume is busy enough without someone trying to kill people. He will probably end up in jail. Lucky for alot of people the cops got before a morgue van had to be called. Grow up.
