Work has started on upgrading 15 black spots on ACT roads as part of a $2.4 million investment to improve road safety.
The Federal Government allocated the money for the projects, which are expected to be completed by the end of August.
The busy intersection joining Northbourne Avenue, Antill Street and Mouat Street is one of the 15 projects, receiving $555,000 of the $2.4 million in funding from the Black Spot program.
Other works include a roundabout, signs and barriers and intersection improvements on local roads.
The Government will spend $530,000 alone on improving turning on Hindmarsh Drive and Yamba Drive.
“The funding will target areas of our roads with a history of crashes or those where there is a significant risk of a collision,” ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope says.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Anthony Albanese says the program prevented at least 32 fatalities and more than 1500 serious injuries in its first three years.
