Key arterial roads near Sydney in NSW have suffered significant delays this morning after serious incidents involving heavy vehicles.

Police are urging all motorists to avoid Picton Road near Wilton in Sydney’s south-west after a motorcyclist travelling east collided with a truck going west.

The bike rider died at the scene and the truck driver was taken to hospital uninjured for mandatory tests.

Traffic management crews are on the scene and traffic is being diverted to MacArthur Road east of Wilton.

The crash site has been closed while investigations are underway into the accident.

Meanwhile, motorists are being told to avoid Parramatta Road on the M4 after a garbage truck tipped over while turning onto the motorway about 1.15am today.

“The truck then crashed into a tree and blocked all westbound lanes,” a police statement says.

“The driver of the truck was trapped for sometime as fire rescue officers, police and paramedics worked to free him from the wreckage.”

The driver was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Police have opened two eastbound lanes while rescue crews try and remove the truck.

Parramatta Road links to the M4 in Sydney. Picton Road links to the South Western Freeway.
