A truck driver will front court charged with negligent driving after he crashed into a house in NSW yesterday.
Police say the 58-year-old Queensland driver jack-knifed the vehicle on the Pacific Highway at South Kempsey about 7:20pm before careening into the front of the house near Lachlan Street.
The owner was at the rear of the house during the incident. Although he escaped injury, the driver was taken to hospital with head wounds.
“The front of the house has been extensively damaged as a result of the incident and a number of power lines are down,” a police statement reads.
Both lanes of the highway were closed for 45 minutes after the crash and then for another 30 minutes some hours later during a salvage operations.
Traffic diversions were put in place multiple times and motorists were asked to delay travel or take alternative routes. Both north and southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway have been closed whilst attempts are made to salvage the truck and an investigation is conducted into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
