Qantas Freight will join Cargo 2000 as an associate member of the management group.

Head of commercial freight for Qantas Freight Theo Triantafillides says membership of Cargo 2000 will help Qantas to differentiate itself and bring together many process improvements the business has made over the past 12 months.

The news follows more poor financial results for the carrier, although it does seem to be improving marginally.

Monthly traffic figures show Qantas’ domestic travel yields are 6 percent lower than the same time last year, but the decline in yields of almost 8 percent from international operations in January was an improvement on November and December figures last year.

Triantafillides says joining a quality management system like Cargo 2000 is a natural extension of the business transformation work the corporation is already undertaking.

“We are at a point in our transformation program where it makes sense to ensure our internal processes are aligned with that of the industry’s preferred quality measurement tool.

“Our customers have a choice and we want to make sure they continue to choose Qantas Freight as their preferred carrier and ground handler,” he says.

“Cargo 2000 has proven that it can generate productivity improvements and efficiency gains by standardising and optimising internal processes.”

Director for Asia Pacific of Cargo 2000 Tom Presnail welcomed the carrier to the program.

Qantas Freight will first join the program as an associate member to allow it to fully align its processes and reporting with the strict requirements of the Cargo 2000 system.

Progression to full membership is expected within two years.
