Sydney container haulage firm Paradigm Engineering is planning to contest fines imposed on its trucks at Port Botany.
Paradigm partner Warren Symonds, who is also linked to Alltrans Logistics, believes the former Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), now Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), went beyond its remit in fining his trucks as they left the CTAL gates to travel a short distance so their cargo could be broken down to legal volumes.
Symonds, is no stranger to legal challenges and who is regarded as a burr under the saddle of authorities and stevedores at the port, claims the road is on private land and that proper weighing procedures were not followed. ...

March 9, 2010
Work will begin this week on upgrading a dangerous section of road on the Hume Highway in NSW after a spate of serious accidents dating back five years.
The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) will finally improve junctions at the highway at George Street and Medway Road in Marulan with a $450,000 injection from the Blackspot Program.
An RTA spokesperson says a raised concrete triangular island will be built at the exit from George Street on to highway.
The spokesperson says the upgrade will stop motorists from turning right into and out of George Street and Medway Road, curbing the rate of crashes since 2005 which have included 11 injuries and two fatalites.
“Motorists will no longer be able to drive across the highway from Marulan to Medway Road but will be able to drive from Medway Road across to Marulan as there is no safer alternative for these motorists,” the spokesperson says.
The change will take effect on March 11 this year.
Motorists will still be able to turn left in and out of George Street and Medway Road.
“Drivers also have a safe alternate route via the existing Brayton Road underpass to access Marulan” the spokesperson says.
One of the two fatal crashes and two injury crashes involved drivers exiting George Street and colliding with another vehicle travelling north.
The other fatal crash involved the driver crossing the Hume Highway and colliding with a southbound motorist.
