The CEO of umbrella group Silk Logistics has gone after less than two years in the job, with the operator to announce changes to its leadership team.

Bob Welsh was appointed the Managing Director and CEO of the group when it was formed in 2008 under a private equity venture that brought five of Australia’s leading family-owned operators under the one banner.

Silk Logistics Chairman John Clifford confirmed Welsh had left but declined to detail why.

“In mid March we will make a public statement,” Clifford says.

Kagan Logistics, Bunker Freight Lines, Hoffmans Transport, WA Freight Group and Doolan’s Heavy Haulage all operate under the Silk Logistics banner.

Welsh was involved in the creation of Silk by private equity firm Gresham Partners and previously worked for British Petroleum (BP) for 22 years.

In an interview with ATN in 2008, Welsh said Silk was designed to offer a complete service by pooling the resources of the individual companies.

“You have got customers who want less suppliers, not more,” Welsh said at the time.

He also said Gresham was treating Silk as a medium-term investment, but added there was no timeframe for the sale of the company.

It seems to me that a lot of Investors like Gresham are only in it for the big bucks and when thay have had enough OR it doesn't meet there expectations it is time to sell it off. There is no loyality in business any more.Has Gresham have that much money to be able to just sell this trucking firm off?
Should have only played the stock market instead of playing with peoples lives.
