Work has begun on another section of the Pacific Highway duplication as part of efforts to improve the route.
Federal Minsiter for Infrastrucuture and Transport Anthony Albanese says the $60 million Glenugie upgrade started this week to duplicate and straighten the highway between Franklins Road and Eight Mile Lane.
Work is expected to be completed late next year on the joint-government funded initiative.
NSW Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport David Borger says duplication work will also begin on the highway between Sapphire and Wooolgoolga in the second half of 2010.
“The Sapphire to Woolgoolga upgrade will significantly improve safety and cut travel times along this section of highway as well as provide better access to the northern beaches and Woolgoolga,” Borger says.
The $698 million project will involve the design and construction of 25 kilometres of dual lane divided carriageways and 30 bridges or bridge sized structures.
Another five interchanges will also be built and a local road network will be put in place for school buses and local traffic to avoid the highway.
