All 110 trucks in Woolworths’ Victorian fleet will turn on their lights tomorrow in remembrance of the 8,263 people who have died on the State's roads in the last 20 years.

The move is part of the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Shine a Light on Road Trauma initiative which began in 1989.

Woolworths General Manager of Logisitics Geoff Thomas says the company is “acutely aware” of its responsibility to keep roads safe across the country.

“We see it as our responsibility to back the Shine a Light on Road Trauma initiative,” Thomas says.

“Drivers of Woolworths’ Victorian based truck fleet will be turning on their headlights on December 10 with drivers travelling interstate into Victoria doing the same when they cross the border.”

TAC Executive Manager of Community Relations Phillip Reed says the supermarket giant's backing indicated the level of support the Shine a Light initiative has.

“We applaud Woolworths’ commitment to road safety and thank them for shining a light on road trauma,” Reed says.

Thomas claims Woolworths is dedicated to the highest health and safety standards in its fleet by ensuring new vehicles have side airbags, driver alert systems and front and side under run protection.
