The design concept for a 'super highway' as the backbone of a north-south transport corridor in Adelaide has been announced.
The so-called Superway will cost nearly $1 billion and is expected to reduce travel time from the Port River Expressway to Regency Road for some 45,000 vehicles each day, 17 percent of which are freight carrying B-doubles and road trains.
Included in the concept for the road, which is expected to be completed in late 2013, is a 2.8km road bridge above the existing road between Wing Street and Taminga Street, along with grade separation over four signalised intersections and one railway crossing.
There will also be modifications to the 1.7km section of South Road between Taminga Street and Regency Road, as well as upgrades to the local road system at Naweena Road and Hanson Road between Junction and Cormack roads.
