Diesel prices continued their recent downward trend falling for the seventh consecutive time for the week ending October 4 2009.

Terminal gate pricing data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum shows prices in all states apart from Darwin hovered around the 111.3 cents per litre mark throughout the week.

Diesel in Melbourne was the cheapest in the country, averaging at a price of 110.1 cents per litre and was closely followed by Brisbane and Sydney which each averaged 110.3 cents.

Adelaide was not far behind with a price of 110.7 cents per litre.

Darwin topped the list with an average diesel price of 115 cents per litre, 3.7 cents higher than Perth which finished as the second most expensive city at 111.3 cents a litre.
