Victorian trailer manufacturer MaxiTRANS will cut 54 jobs this week, as the economic slowdown continues to hit the transport industry.

While details remain unclear, it is understood all staff, including management, have been asked to accept a nine-day fortnight in a bid to stave off further job losses.

MaxiTRANS Managing Director Michael Brockhoff previously told ATN the company’s order book was suffering as banks and financiers refused money to clients for new trailers, leading to a slowdown in manufacturing.

ATN has contacted MaxiTRANS asking for further comment.
