Hi-Trans pushes ahead with fleet investment

Ten new Euro 6 Mercedes-Benz Actros prime movers put to work

New truck sales may largely be on the back foot but Adelaide-based Hi-Trans Express bucks that trend, recently spotlighting its new Mercedes-Benz fleet additions.

Its recent purchase of 10 Actros 2658 Euro 6 prime movers adds to its linehaul stable, operating along the east coast.

CEO Tony Mellick tells ATN the investment was made with safety, compliance, fuel economy and the environment in mind.

“All are Euro 6, which backs up our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, and all are fitted with Seeing Machines – an important step in managing our driver fatigue, health and wellbeing – as well the latest MT Data units to manage real-time compliance,” Mellick says.

“This is our first step in providing our customers with enhanced environmental outcomes, leading fatigue management and compliance management.”

Hi-Trans recently took steps to invest in an operations control room

An important consideration is also driver amenity, he adds.

“Having the best available equipment will assist in retaining and attracting linehaul drivers in a diminishing market.”

The fleet additions form part of the firm’s strategy, Mellick explains, which for the most part sees minimal forecasted impact from recent domestic headwinds.

“Our FY21 strategy is underpinned by new equipment looking to increasing our Far North Queensland service offer and our intrastate offering across Australia, in line with providing our current and future customers with an integrated inter and intra-state service.”

Three of the new vehicles are put to work, with the remaining units due the end of next week.
