NHVR Portal opened for Victorian Class 1 permits

Regulator promises streamlined approach to approvals in the state

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) will now process all Victorian Class 1 heavy vehicle permit applications.

NHVR project director Annette Finch says the NHVR has been working with VicRoads and the Victorian heavy vehicle industry to streamline the permit process through the Portal.

“Victorian heavy vehicle operators have been using the NHVR Portal since 2016, but [now] will receive additional benefits with the NHVR and VicRoads streamlining the consent process,” Finch says.

“Instead of the applications being delegated to VicRoads to seek approval with local road managers within Victoria, the NHVR will action the application and produce the permit via the NHVR Portal.

“An applicant will have full visibility throughout the process which includes being able to log on at any time and see where the process is at, during any stage of the application cycle.”

Class 1 heavy vehicles include oversize overmass (OSOM), special purpose vehicles, cranes and agricultural vehicles.

There were more than 6,000 Class 1 permit applications submitted across Victoria last year, with the Portal aiming to improve the process.

The NHVR recently hosted a series of training workshops at the Victorian Transport Association offices which was attended by operators from the construction, heavy haulage, forestry and crane industries.

The NHVR Portal can be accessed at www.service.nhvr.gov.au or phone 1300 MYNHVR (1300 696 487)
