DP World and SCT take on Wimmera rail service

Companies look to attract customers through reduced supply chain costs

DP World Australia and SCT Logistics have linked for a rail service to the Port of Melbourne from Victoria’s Wimmera region.

The initiative leverages SCT’s Wimmera Intermodal Freight Terminal, with the pair providing western Victoria exporters with direct access to the dock at West Swanson Terminal.

“This will be the only true on-dock rail service at the Port of Melbourne,” DP World Australia managing director and CEO Paul Scurrah says.

“The arrangement demonstrates DP World Australia’s commitment to reducing supply chain costs for regional exporters by creating a clear path to our terminal.

“The impact to our local community is also significant as around 20,000 trucks per year will be taken off the road in our surrounding communities.”

SCT gained control of the Dooen terminal in 2013.

“We are in the business of improving outcomes for our customers by improving supply chains,” SCT Group managing director Geoff Smith says.

“This partnership with DP World Melbourne ticks both of those boxes and provides a platform for future strategic opportunities together.”

The first Wimmera Container Line train will be serviced in the first week of July.
