Queensland forum aims to improve health of truck drivers

Event will include advice on driver health and wellbeing from Linfox, Toll and Beyondblue

A forum involving government and industry representatives will be held next week to discuss ways to manage the health and wellbeing of truck drivers.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is hosting a breakfast forum on April 23 at the Brisbane Technology Park at Eight Mile Plains.

It will run from 7am to 10.30am and feature speakers including Linfox health and wellbeing manager Marian Merrigan and Toll NQX safety and risk manager Lawrence Daniel.

WHSQ says Merrigan will speak about Linfox’s health and wellbeing program that addresses nutrition, fitness, strength, mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Likewise, Daniel is expected to cover Toll’s approach to promoting and managing driver health and wellbeing.

The forum will also include Beyondblue head of research Nick Arvanitis, who will detail how businesses can create a supportive and mentally healthy workplace.

The health and wellness manager for Carlton United Breweries, Amy Sproule, will discuss how the drink maker introduced its health and wellness program and the benefits it has delivered.

WHSQ says the forum will feature exhibitors offering free health checks and information and resources on implementing healthy worker initiatives.

The list of exhibitors at the event includes Diabetes Queensland, the Stroke Foundation, Queensland Health, Nutrition Australia and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

Those interested in attending need to register and pay a $44 fee.

Those seeking more information need to contact WHSQ by phone on 07 3874 7754 or via email.
