Zoom2u aims to be a courier sector disruptor

Fresh from selling Connect2Field, founder Orenstein has new IT-driven service

The founder of a new on-demand express courier service, Zoom2u, has pledged to do for that sector something similar to what Uber is doing for the taxi industry and Airbnb for accommodation.

US-founded online chauffeur service Uber has caused consternation amongst taxi operators internationally, leading to the popularisation of the term “disruptors”, which describes creatively destructive innovations that threaten existing business models.

Zoom2u has been launched in Sydney by Steve Orenstein, the founder and former CEO of logistics IT service provider Connect2Field, which was sold to US giant Fleetmatics earlier this year.

“Like taxis, the courier industry is ripe for disruption,” Orenstein says.

“Very little has been done to improve the customer experience, so I’ve set up Zoom2u to change that and respond to customer demand.”

He tells ATN Zoom2u has couriers using bikes, motorcycles, cars and vans that are typically owned by individuals.

Because drivers only need an iPhone or Android phone to receive job details it’s easy for Zoom2u to scale up the number of couriers needed at any time.

According to the company, the Zoom2u service presently delivers any parcel, within a 60km radius of Sydney’s CBD, in three hours and enables the customer to track and connect with the driver to find out exactly where their parcel is.

“Any individual or business can register online for Zoom2u or via the iPhone and Android app and nominate pick-up and delivery details,” it adds.

“Once the goods are picked up the customer is able to track where the courier is in real time and how long it will be until those goods arrive at their destination.

“When the job is complete a notification is sent via email or through the app. Customers then have the ability to rate the courier’s service out of five stars.”

Zoom2u plans to launch in all major states of Australia by the end of this year and then take on the rest of the world. Zoom2u will be open in Melbourne and Brisbane by the end of September.
