Cost Index
THE ATN-PKF TRUCK OPERATING COST INDEX

Exclusive to ATN subscribers, the ATN-PKF Truck Operating Cost Index is a valuable business tool leading transport operators rely on to set rates.

Developed by Rick Copping of chartered accounting firm PKF and prepared by ATN, the Cost Index measures truck operating costs for a typical long- and short-haul operation, based on figures from reliable sources including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, FuelTRAC and WorkCover authorities.

Key costs included are:

• Wages
• Fuel
• Tyres
• lnsurance
• Depreciation
• Interest/lease payments
• Registration
• Repairs and maintenance
• Workers’ compensation

Updated quarterly, the Cost Index is available as a downloadable spreadsheet exclusively for ATN subscribers.

While it can be an independent and credible source to justify setting rates, the Cost Index should only be used as a guide.
